What Keeway failures look like

32,704 Keeway tests on record carry the manual reference DVSA attaches to each defect. The most frequent problems were with lamps, reflectors and electrical equipment on 9,771 tests (29.9%), with brakes on 9,265 tests (28.3%) and with body, structure and attachments on 8,846 tests (27.0%). A test can fail on more than one thing, and an MOT can be failed on one defect while another is only advised, so these counts do not add up to the number of tests.

Narrowed down from the categories to the individual defects themselves, three come up on more than one test:

  • Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot severely deteriorated

MOT inspection manual reference 6.1.7, in body, structure and attachments

Recorded on 6,030 of the 32,704 tests: 1,694 failures and 4,336 advisories or minors.

  • Shock absorbers has light misting of oil

MOT inspection manual reference 5.3.2, in axles, wheels, tyres and suspension

  • Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge

MOT inspection manual reference 5.2.3, in axles, wheels, tyres and suspension

Recorded on 3,075 of the 32,704 tests: 766 failures and 2,309 advisories or minors.

The same breakdown for individual Keeway models: Keeway Superlight (15,237 tests), Keeway Rk (3,332 tests), Keeway Tx (3,070 tests), Keeway Rkf (2,178 tests).

Clauses are read from the manual reference at the end of every defect on the cached test records, and a defect shown here has to appear on at least two of them before it is named. The site-wide breakdown explains how that works and compares every make.
