Terms & Conditions

Using this site

MOTindex is free to use for checking the MOT history of UK vehicles. By using it you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use the site.

Accuracy, and its limits

MOT data is supplied by the DVSA and reproduced as received. We do not edit it, and we cannot correct it - if a garage entered a mileage wrongly, that error is in the official record and will appear here. Corrections have to go through the DVSA.

Figures described on the site as estimates - fuel cost per mile, Euro status, mileage comparisons - are calculated from the data available and are guidance only. They are not a professional assessment of any vehicle.

Not a substitute for an inspection

An MOT certificate records the condition of a vehicle on the day it was tested and nothing after it. A clean history is not a guarantee of a sound car, and this site is not a vehicle history check: it does not cover outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, theft markers or previous keepers. Before buying a vehicle, get it inspected and run the appropriate checks.

Availability

The site depends on a government API we do not control. It may be unavailable, slow, or return incomplete data, and we make no promise of uptime. Fair-use limits apply to stop automated scraping from degrading the service for everyone else.

Acceptable use

Please do not scrape the site, automate bulk lookups, or attempt to work around the rate limit. Using vehicle data to harass, stalk or trace an individual is prohibited, and the DVSA's own terms prohibit it too.

Liability

The site is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law we accept no liability for loss arising from reliance on anything shown here, including a decision to buy or not buy a vehicle.

Data licence

MOT data contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. MOTindex is not affiliated with or endorsed by the DVSA, the DVLA or gov.uk.
