What Chrysler Neon failures look like

3,220 Chrysler Neon tests on record carry the manual reference DVSA attaches to each defect. The most frequent problems were with axles, wheels, tyres and suspension on 2,364 tests (73.4%), with brakes on 1,218 tests (37.8%) and with nuisance (emissions and noise) on 753 tests (23.4%). A test can fail on more than one thing, and an MOT can be failed on one defect while another is only advised, so these counts do not add up to the number of tests.

Narrowed down from the categories to the individual defects themselves, three come up on more than one test:

  • Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement

MOT inspection manual reference 5.3.4, in axles, wheels, tyres and suspension

Recorded on 924 of the 3,220 tests: 219 failures and 705 advisories or minors.

  • Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge

MOT inspection manual reference 5.2.3, in axles, wheels, tyres and suspension

Recorded on 827 of the 3,220 tests: 153 failures and 674 advisories or minors.

  • Oil leak, but not excessive

MOT inspection manual reference 8.4.1, in nuisance (emissions and noise)

Recorded on 617 of the 3,220 tests: 19 failures and 598 advisories or minors.

Where there is enough data to compare: Chrysler Grand Voyager (80,223 tests), Chrysler Ypsilon (56,497 tests), Chrysler Pt Cruiser (40,150 tests), Chrysler Crossfire (24,473 tests), every Chrysler model (277,733 tests).

Clauses are read from the manual reference at the end of every defect on the cached test records, and a defect shown here has to appear on at least two of them before it is named. The site-wide breakdown explains how that works and compares every make.
